ABOUT US

After the dedication of the Greers Ferry dam in 1963, many people came to the area to enjoy fun-filled days on the Greers Ferry lake.  While having dinner one evening at Nadine's Restaurant, a committee was formed which consisted of Nadine Ball, Cy & Martha Bond and Oscar & Frances Nixon.  This committee was formed to organize a Methodist church in the area.  The District Superintendent Reverend Elmo Thomason managed to have a trailer brought up to Higden where the first worship would be held in September 1964.  Charles Jones, a bible student from Batesville, Arkansas, conducted the services for a few months.

Reverend E.J. Holifield was appointed the District Superintendent at the Annual Conference in June 1965 and assigned Reverend Tom Cowan as Pastor of the church.

By the end of 1966, our membership had grown to 27 people and we had secured the service of E.W. Grandstaff as architect and builder along with Burke Stark and Lefty James to construct the church's original building.

With borrowed folding chairs, we held our first service in the new sanctuary on Easter Sunday, March 26, 1967.

By December 8, 1968, a heating plan and air conditioning system had been installed and all of our debts were paid.

Reverene Holifield arranged for our Bishop, Paul Galloway to dedicate the church on December 8, 1968.

The Fellowship Hall was added in 1973 and named after Reverend Cowen.
